Dean's Message

On behalf of the faculty I wish to welcome all current students, potential students, faculty staff and other stake holders who are viewing these pages of the faculty homepage. In the last decade up till now there has been tremendous technological advancements never imagined before. One such is the internet which has made it possible for enormous amounts of data to be transferred or exchanged within seconds. I am  now pleased to be able to publish these few messages using this technology.

Education is one of three Faculties of the University of Goroka. It has two academic departments; Educational Foundations and Curriculum & Teaching.  A number of educational programs, specialisations and a variety of quality courses are offered to meet the needs of students pursuing teacher education programs here at the University of Goroka.

The Faculty, through its two academic departments, offers courses in Education Studies to undergraduate students interested in taking up teacher education studies, which will ultimately lead them to become teachers in the PNG education system. The University believes in the education of teachers of high quality, teachers who are prepared to make a difference in the lives of those they teach and interact with. In pursuing this goal, the university has recruited the best academic staff available and to develop and deliver a high quality teacher education programs for its clients. It is my sincere hope that those who come to study with us will also aim for quality and be enriched in an integrated manner with the expertise and assistance of our quality academic staff.

Aims and Functions

The aims of the Faculty of Education at the University of Goroka are to promote excellence in teaching and learning at all levels of both formal and non-formal education in Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific. Additionally, the Faculty aims to promote the advancement of education as a field of study by contributing to the creation, development and dissemination of knowledge in this field.

The Faculty, through its two departments: the Department of Curriculum & Teaching and the Department of Educational Foundations, offers courses for all University programs.


Programs Available

The University of Goroka (UOG) is the main center for Teacher Education in the Highlands and in Papua New Guinea.
A diverse range of programs catering to all parts of the education system, are on offer for prospective students.
The main purpose of the programs is to prepare beginning teachers for primary and secondary schools.

Professionals from elementary, primary, secondary, vocational and technical schools are also welcome to study at UOG at the In-Service and Post Graduate level.
