Academic Programs

The Agriculture Teacher Education Program, launched in 2000, and the Agriculture Extension Program launched in 2007 has been offering content courses in all disciplines of agriculture science including soils, animal, crops, agriculture extension, crop protection and animal health and diseases, agriculture economics and agribusiness rural technology and mechanical engineering. 

The section's goal is to implement the national government's policy on education reform and poverty alleviation through teacher education.

The section's mission is to: promote self-sufficiency, and enhance food security for the next generation through agriculture teacher education through achievement of the Governments medium and long term plans/strategies.

Agriculture Education Programs:

4 year Bachelor of Education Pre service 
4 year Bachelor of Agriculture Extension
2 year Bachelor of Education In service 
1 year Post Vocational Teacher Education  
1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Education

Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Education - Pre service:

Gr 12 or matriculation with minimum of 2 'B' grades in any science subjects (biology, chemistry, or physics) and a minimum 'C' grade in English, Mathematics and Social Science. Or, such qualifications as may be acceptable to the Admissions Committee of the University of Goroka.

Bachelor of Education In service:                                                               

Diploma or Certificate in Tropical Agriculture and one or two year advance diploma in teaching with minimum of 2 year teaching experience.

Bachelor of Agriculture Extension:                                      

Gr 12 or matriculation with minimum of 2 'B' grades in any science subjects (biology, chemistry, or physics) and a minimum 'C' grade in English, Mathematics and Social Science. Or, such qualifications as may be acceptable to the Admissions Committee of the University of Goroka.
Diploma or Certificate in Tropical Agriculture and one or two year plus years field experience on the job. Public servants and other extension workers are encouraged to apply as there are different path ways to upgrade your qualifications. Teachers who already have a Diploma are also encourage to apply for content upgrading with minimum of 2 year teaching experience.

1 year Diploma in Post Vocational Teacher Education: 

Certificate or Diploma in Tropical Agriculture with at least two years of field experience.

1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Teacher Education:                                          

Degree in Agriculture Science in any University
