Design and Technology

Academic Programs

The Design and Technology Section offers courses which are aimed to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes through intellectual and practical experiences in the disciplines of technical drawing, woodwork, metalwork, handicraft, repair & maintenance, design & technology project and plastic which involve the processes of designing, making, evaluating, communicating, marketing and managing.

Students taking design and technology, as a major course will be offered specialist courses in technical drawing, woodwork, metalwork and handicraft in level three and four. Repair & maintenance and design & technology project will be offered at level four and courses in plastic will be offered as an optional in the future. Curriculum and Instruction courses will cover workshop teaching and analysis. Workshop management will be offered in level three to both major and minor students. Students from within the Faculty will heave the opportunity to take elective courses that are offered in levels one and two.

Design and Technology Education aims to promote the understanding and appreciation of technology and skills acquisition through the integration of contemporary technologies with traditional technology by developing  (i) Technical Skills in various course disciplines, (ii) Knowledge of appropriate technology, (iii) An appreciation of good workmanship, (iv) The desire to improve the standard of living in the society, and (v) An awareness of career options that is industry-oriented.
