Health Section

Academic Programs

The Health Section of the Department offers two 1-year Diploma Programs. These includes; Diploma in Teaching Health and Diploma in Health Education. Students in these programs more of education courses than in health. The Diploma in Health Education refers to a program designed for Health Educators at Provincial and District levels. The Diploma in Teaching Health program is designed for Educators and Instructors in Nursing Colleges, Community Health Worker Training Schools and College of Allied Health Sciences for Health Extension Officers (HEOs) and Health Inspectors (HI's) training.


Diploma in Health Education and Diploma in Teaching Health

Students admitted to the Diploma in Health Education program are Nursing Officers, Health Extension Officers, Health Inspectors, Dental Therapists, and Nutritionists. Nursing Officers should have post basic certificate in a specialist area such as Obstetrics, Paediatrics, etc. with a minimum 2 years field experience. After completion of this course they are expected to work as Health Educators or In service Coordinators and/or Trainers at Provincial or District levels in PNG and the South Pacific.

Students admitted to the Diploma in Teaching Health program are also Nursing Officers, Health Extension Officers, and Health Inspectors. Graduates of this program will be expected to assume the role of Educators and Instructors in Health related training Institutions in PNG and South Pacific.
