Foreword

The University of Goroka’s Faculty of Science is the largest and is a multi-disciplinary Faculty. The faculty comprises of   10 academic teacher education programs. These academic programs include Maths and Computing, Science Education, Agricultural Education, Health Teaching, Health Education, Technical Education, Secretarial and Business Studies, Design and Technology, Home Economics Education and Physical Education and the recently introduced Teacher Education degree program in Agricultural Education. Students enrolled in the Faculty are admitted into the three departments where they specialise in content. Offering of postgraduate programs in the various disciplines are a major consideration in the next few years.

Administratively, the Faculty consists of four (4) academic Departments and one center. The administrative Department arrangement of diverse sections are a marriage of convenience rather than a natural accommodation of sections based on subject rationale. This marriage of convenience we hope will be put rest if our planned restructure takes effect soon.

The Faculty is committed to its aim of producing quality science teachers for the PNG education system.

The Faculty of Science officers and their contact address are shown in the respective department pages. Please address all official communications to each of the respective officer.

Dean's Message

Science is one of three Faculties created since the declaration of the Goroka Campus as a fully fledged University in 1997. The other two faculties are Education and Humanities. These three faculties jointly offer teacher education programs. Faculty of Science, through its Academic Departments, offers courses to students enrolled in the respective pre-service and in-service degrees and diplomas.

The University of Goroka (UoG) advocates for gender equity education in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the South West Pacific. Its programs focus on quality education for primary, secondary, post secondary, technical and vocational teachers and instructors or educators in other fields such as health. Science faculty contributes towards this objective through the programs it offers.

On behalf of the Faculty I welcome all viewers of these faculty pages. I sincerely hope that the information provided within will assist you to choose science as your teaching field. Please, feel free to contact us at the faculty office if you need further information.

Thank you.

Dr. P. Jeyaranthan
Dean, Science Faculty.
