PVTE and PGDE
Post Vocational Teacher Education
The faculty also offers programs in Post Vocational Teacher Education (PVTE) for Agriculture, Technical, Secretarial Studies, Business Studies, Health Education and Health Teaching.
These PVTE programs are offered in duration of one or two years depending on the need for depth and scope of content and pedagogical skills of teachers, instructors and others educators in institutions of higher learning. Students admitted to these programs must have pre-requisite qualifications in any of the vocational fields as listed above. For example, PVTE students in Health Teaching must have a minimum pre-requisite basic qualification in nursing as well as post-basic qualifications. Although a minimum of two years work experience is desirable this may not be necessary if perspective employers choice otherwise.
Graduates of the one and two year PVTE programs take up teaching in high schools, secondary schools, vocational centres, technical colleges, business colleges and other higher institutions in PNG and the South West Pacific.
Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Subjects in the Faculty)
Like all other programs at the UOG, the faculty also offers a one-year program for graduates with a degree in one of the subjects in the faculty and will graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). For example, a graduate from UPNG or UNITECH or other Universities with degree in maths, science or agriculture can be admitted to our post graduate Programs. The PGDE students will be required to take a large number of required education courses within the education faculty and the subject curriculum and teaching courses within the Science Faculty.
