Welcome to the University of Goroka’s official website. This website provides an insight into the University, where we are and what we offer to students and the community. Feel free to browse and explore the site to become acquainted with us.
This year has proven to be a very exciting and challenging one for all at the University of Goroka. Some highlights of the year so far include: the UOG Anniversary Day celebrations; the launching of the Alekano Dictionary; the launching of the UOG Corporate Plan; successful peace negations with the local community; student sports achievements; the University’s support for the Goroka Coffee Festival; plans for the new six-storey twin tower student dormitory; the promotion of two senior staff members—Drs Michael Mel and Api Maha to that of Associate Professor level. The UOG Open Day, the participation of UOG staff at the Highlands Career Expo and the hosting of the Science and Technology Conference were other recent events on campus.
In the ten year history of the University, this is one that is most exciting. From the Management’s point of view, one of the most important issues for the running of the University is that of policies. Many policies that will guide the University have been approved recently by the Council. These policies include: the UOG Corporate Plan 2008-2011; the UOG HIV/AIDS Work Place Policy and the UOG Consultancy Policy. A recently approved policy is insurance cover for all UOG employees. Future plans have also been made to approve a similar policy for students of the University. At present the Management are working on other important policies regarding a Financial and Accounting Manual, a Housing Policy, and a Staff Development policy.
Other exciting events planned for the year are: the UOG staff contingent to the Intervarsity Games in Rabaul, WNB Province and our Teaching Practice program. I am sure that the year will end with more positive events taking place at our University.
This website is a key avenue to help you find out more. Let us work together to create your own future at the University of Goroka.
Best wishes for your future studies at UOG!
