The programs under the division of Tourism and Hospitality Management focus on three major disciplines with six strands and number of courses that are significant for the program to meet the tourism industry demand in the country. The division is also looking forward to offer more programs in future through Regular and Distance and Flexible Learning mode. Overview The Division of Tourism and Hospitality Management under the Institute of TVET is offering the programs Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management (BTHM), Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) and Diploma in Hotel Operations Management (DHOM). The programs focus on three major disciplines namely Tourism, Hospitality and Management. Each discipline contains two strands and number of courses that are significant for the program to meet the tourism industry demand in the country. The strands under the major discipline are Tourism Industry, Travel Operations, Food Service Industry, Hotel Operations, Resource Management and Organizational Ethics. The division has a number of qualified expatriate and national academics with the specialization in Tourism and Hospitality Management providing quality education and train future work force of the tourism industry. A well-equipped laboratory and restaurant are available for the students to have hands on experience. Field trips are organized for the students to explore tourism industries in Eastern Highlands Province. The students are given workplace training in the Hospitality and Tourism industries. The four years bachelor degree program enables the students to attend industrial training twice during their study. The students of the programs BTHM, DTHM & DHOM attend ‘Hospitality Internship’ in year two and the final year BTHM students attend ‘Tourism Internship’ in year four. The division has signed MOU with the Coral Sea Group Hotels, PNG. The Coral Sea hotels are the leading chain hoteliers in Papua New Guinea who contribute for the future workforce of the nation by providing industrial training for the students of the Tourism and Hospitality Management, University of Goroka. The division has also established rapport with the tourism industries in the country that provides opportunity for the students to explore the industry during their internship. The division is also working on various programs to be offered through regular and DFL mode.
